What are power and air requirements for a Datron Machine?

The machine requires 16amp 3Phase Neutral & Earth, With air requirement of 300cfm with a 7.5bar minimum.

How do I let you know of any issues that I am having with my machine?

What maintenance do I need to do?

General machine housekeeping, cleaning the machine down and swarf management is always good practice.

How long does a service take ?

The actual service takes 1 day, the machine location denotes the overall travel time.

How do I know when my annual service is due?

The service department will contact you 1 month prior to your installation date to arrange your annual service.

Who do I contact with regards to the service of my ancillary equipment? Vacuum Pump, Spindle Chiller The contact information is usually on the product itself, but please call service to discuss is if you cannot find it.

How often do you need to get the machine serviced?

The machines running a single shift operation require an annual service, multiple shift operation should be service more frequently.

What is the handbox used for?

There are a variety of functions on the handbox, such a two knobs that are used to override the traverse speed of the machine, it gives the user a degree of ‘manual control’.

How does the Vacuum table hold my parts?

The vacuum workholding technology has been developed over the years to give optimise performance. The vacuum tables use a sacrificial ‘VacuCard’ which the parts are placed on, the parts can then be milled and any through cuts will cut into the card and leave the table intact.

The vacuum clamping is widely used for workholding and saves time and cost making conventional fixtures.

Can I create threads?

Yes you can, you cannot use conventional taps as the spindles speeds are too fast, but we have thread milling which creates threads quickly and part of the machined parts program. We supply a range of thread milling tools to facilitate thread milling.

Why should I use Balanced tools ?

Balanced tooling allows the spindle speed to be increased significantly whilst keeping the tool running true. Unbalanced tooling would create a resonance if run at similar speeds.

Why use Single flute tools?

Single flute tools give excellent swarf removal

The machine import ISO G Codes and create a Datron MCR or SIMPL file

What CadCam should I use?

The Cad side is really down to your own preferred software, this also applies to the Cam software. The machine can import files from various software using the relevant post processor. One of the most widely used software is Fusion from Autodesk.

Do you offer any extended warranty or insurance ?

There is a package offered by Close Bros, 3-5-7 which covers the machine for 3, 5 or 7 years depending on what you need. The package can cover a variety of scenarios including accidental damage which is useful for certain instances.

Where do you get IMS from ?

IMS is available from chemical suppliers, you will however need to get a license from Customes and Excise as it is a denatured alcohol, there is no charge for this.

What coolant does the machine use?

Normally we use IMS (Industrial Methylated Spirit) or known as ‘Ethanol’ this evaporates leaving dry parts. There are alternatives, we can supply ProCut 56 and ProCut 200 for plastic and steel applications.
